By using Zbox the transport of empty containers is avoided, and then, some of the problems caused by transport imbalances are solved. Sustainability of transport operations is increased mainly due to fuel savings and less land required. In detail:
- Aggregate CO2 emissions of transport are reduced in 20%. Shipping lines reduce fuel consumption in bunker, while reducing CO2 and NOx emissions, aligned with MARPOL directive and Sulphur emissions targets.
- Route transport emissions are reduced in 80%, as per the reduction 1:5 on containers to transport. Using an average European route, Navlandis estimates savings would reach 1.5Mton CO2 by 2023, 13.5Mton CO2 by 2025 and amount to 30Mton
- Less fuel use to transport the same number of empty containers. Indeed, Rotterdam harbour incentivise the use of greener sea container ships by offering 5% reduction in harbour charges. This might be relevant to the shipping lines who pay many tens of thousands in fees each time one of their ships use the harbour.
- Reduction of berthing time of vessels in ports
- Reduction of traffic congestion in port areas.
- Less land use for storage in port and depot areas
Zbox is a new generation of foldable containers due to its innovative and patented mechanism of Z-shaped folding. This unique system has been currently developed in 20 feet units, that have been certified according to CSC and ISO 1496 standards, bringing to market the following advantages:
• Closest performance to the standard container: closest maximum gross weight, internal dimensions differ only 2cm, and same external dimensions.
• Quick and easy fold and unfold process, needing only one or two operators and standard machinery
• Usage of 85% of standard pieces, making maintenance and repair easy and costless
• Capability of packing 5 folded units in the same space of a standard container
• In repositioning operations, reduction of:
o 50% of operative costs
o 80% of storage space
o 20% of CO2 emissions
