Problem we are solving
i. Current Global Logistics is at risk of remaining a ‘dinosaur’ – a fragmented, silo-based, uncollaborative model, poorly-positioned to respond to a threatening logistical landscape: rapid obsolescence of workforce due to innovations, the pandemic and its direct and indirect consequences, geopolitical events and frictions (blockage of Suez Canal and Ukrainian war). Add to this a great acceleration of goods and dataflow worldwide. All are powerful eye-openers that Global Logistics urgently needs to reinvent itself to achieve an effective, efficient, sustainable (economically, environmentally, socially) approach to logistics.
ii. The transformation from traditional to sustainable Logistics requires careful planning. Logistics stakeholders are being bombarded with rhetoric on CSR, ESG and a variety of end-to-end Logistics ecosystems. But to date, no one is providing a solution to reshape the current Global Logistics model by using a People+Planet+Prosperity approach. This is the missing link to create a new ecosystem that is viable and profitable while putting a priority on people and the planet.
iii. As set out in the UN Sustainable Development Goals and EU Green Deal, the ambition is move towards climate-neutral by 2050. Global Logistics faces a tough challenge to meet this. The deployment of greener and cleaner freight vehicles, trains, barges, ships, and airplanes as well as low emission energy solutions is forecasted to be too slow to deliver on current targets.
iv. In parallel to the development of lower and zero emission vehicles and low emission energy, Global Logistics needs the knowledge and support to leverage opportunities for increased logistics efficiency, by doing ‘more with less’ in the freight and transport industry. For example, how to eliminate the existing idle capacity of assets in all modes of transport, means to utilize better storage methods, improve freight flows in a more consolidated way using and combining transport modes, and other logistics assets smartly.
