ELOXIRAS

ELOXIRAS® is an innovative process for the treatment and reuse of marine and brackish water. It is developed to enhance the productivity and to reduce the environmental impact of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).
Based on the electrochemical oxidation technology, it only requires an electrical potential between two electrodes in water.
High removal rates of contaminants are achieved, such as total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), nitrite and dissolved organic matter, together with high disinfectant efficacy.

Main features:
- High efficacy. Removal of high concern pollutants, even bacteria and viruses, contributing to increase RAS capacity and productivity in a cost-effective way.
- Reduced environmental impact. The impact of the RAS system is minimized due to lower water exchange requirements with the surrounding media.
- Efficient energy process. Adaptable to optimize energy through a fine tune-up of the treatment intensity to the daily change of the pollutant production rate.
- Compact design. Allowing to save investment costs and to maximize the integration possibilities (logistic applications in trucks and well-boats).
- Easy automatization. Possibility of including a control system with remote alert procedures and supervision of the system condition and operation.
- Easy to operate. Allowing to reach 100% of performance without start-up and adapting periods typical of the biological systems.
- Modular and easy to scale-up. Allowing to increase treatment capacity with the maximum simplicity and the minimum investment cost.
- Safe process. High safety for the farmed species, ideal for isolated applications as quarantine and bio-security.

APRIA Systems S.L

Spain

About Us
APRIA Systems S.L. was founded in 2006 as a spin-off from R&D projects managed by the University of Cantabria. Hence, founders were both research professors and enthusiastic PhDs. One of the founders in the current CEO, Mr. Pedro Gómez. His professional training includes a B.Sc degree and PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Cantabria. He has 20 years’ experience in the conception, design, construction and commissioning of facilities for advanced water treatment and green energy generation technologies based on membrane and advanced oxidation technologies. During that time, he has been responsible for the execution of more than 20 R&D competitive projects funded by both European and regional public institutions. He has been the project coordinator of ELOXIRAS®, dealing with the decision-making process for upgrading the system demonstration and business plan development. He is the main booster behind ELOXIRAS® concept.

Problem we are solving
The ELOXIRAS(r) prototypes already tested in real scenarios, are able to:
1. Increase production (30%),
2. Reduce fresh water consumption (20%),
3. Increase the efficacy on removing pollutants (>90%).

It can be adjusted to different RAS facilities (modular & versatile), and is easy to operate without efficacy fluctuations and start-up periods, then can be also used on logistics operations to guarantee best fish transport conditions and efficiencies.

Sustainable Impact on Blue Ecconomy
"The main unique selling points of ELOXIRAS are:
- ELOXIRAS is able to be used in logistic operations of fish alive due to its compact design. This possibility can open a new market for the technology on transport from hatchery to growing farms.
- Cultured densities can be modified as a function of market demand, keeping water quality requirements, and this key aspect represent one of the main breakthroughs of ELOXIRAS (minimum 30% of production increase). It has a tremendous economic impact when it is possible to store production when the consumption demand is low and deliver again when it comes high.
- ELOXIRAS allows reducing water intake from surrounding media due to a more efficient water treatment system (minimum 20%). Additionally, ELOXIRAS can operate without a water intake stream, so a total insulation can be performed; by this, ELOXIRAS is able to use in quarantine and bio-security facilities.
- ELOXIRAS is able to remove viruses and bacteria with efficiencies higher than 99.9%, a real consumer advantages that allow maintaining a safety on culture production almost completely."
