Finsulate
Dr Rik Breur has worked in antifouling his entire carrier and is regarded as an international expert. 50% of his PhD work was done on the topic. Since 2004 he has run the Finsulate company in various forms and through successes and difficult times. His ambition: to get rid of toxic antifouling paints. Learning by doing, Breur has skills and knowledge ranging from financing to technology development, from logistics to online marketing.
Any object that is placed in the oceans, whether sailing or static, faces the overgrowth with marine organisms. For shipping, this leads to loss of speed or increased fuel consumption, for blue energy structures corrosion rates increase and floating performance decreases and for aquaculture growth rates decrease due to lower refreshment of water though the mesh of the nets.
Finsulate has designed an environmental friendly antifouling that has already proven to prevent this growth for 10 years and is ideal for long term applications. It will prevent the spill of 100 million liters of toxic antifouling paint in the oceans per year! It is based on biomimicry, it mimics the spines of a sea urchin!
Finsulate is based on a physical principle and as a result does not spread any polluting compounds. And based on the long life, the product can also be used on long life applications like blue energy equipment.
