Clean Ocean Coatings
The coating was developed the past 8 years in several research projects amongst others between Phi-Stone AG and Christian-Albrechts University Kiel before we founded Clean Ocean Coatings. Co-Founder and CTO Patricia developed the coating for the past six years. She is a material scientist and water lover. Christina, Co-Founder and CEO, is an international experienced engineer, cradle to cradle enthusiast and a passionate diver.
Ships have a problem with biofouling, the growth of algae and shells on ships. Not only does this give free rides for invasive species, it also increases fuel consumption by up to 40%.To avoid that more than 100000tons of antifouling coatings are applied every year, designed to wash off over time leaching toxins and microplastic into the ocean. Combining the advantages of ceramics and polymers our magic is a uniquely smooth surface which is easy to clean and it is at least 2 years more durable than conventional coatings.
