About Us
Vinh LY, CEO of Kyanos
After studying at Isae-Supareo Toulouse, Vinh Ly joined the Airbus marketing department. While focusing in biofuel, he discovers the exceptional properties of AFA Klamath (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae).
In 2016, he founded Kyanos to cultivate this cyanobacterium in the laboratory, which he will call Pastel d'eau.
Today, Kyanos is industrializing its production, and is experimenting with an urban furniture project, the algal tree to purify the air thanks to microalgae.

Problem we are solving
Agriculture accounts for 26% of global GHG emissions, 50% of the world’s habitable land,  and 70% of the world’s freshwater use.

So, how will we provide enough food for 10 billion people in a sustainable way ?

Kyanos’s proposal directly addresses this issue with a sustainable micro algae protein production process with minimal environmental impact.

Sustainable Impact on Blue Ecconomy
Our solution consists in combining a specific microalgae and a patented process.

We have chosen a very special strain of micro-algae : *Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA)*. AFA is the only edible algae able to fix N2 straight from the air (no need of nitrogen fertilizers which are the first producers of nitrogen protoxide - 300 times worse than CO2 in terms of greenhouse gas emissions).

AFA is a very rich protein source containing more than 60% protein, compared to meat which contains up to 30%. It also contains all the essential amino acids as well as multiple vitamins that make AFA a complete protein with high bioavailability.

We will be using our disruptive and patented technology (Cylcotrophy) for micro-algae production enabling a 10-folds yield increase, 90%+ water saving, extensive water and industrial by-product reuse.

The innovation relies on the smart selection and use of secondary microorganisms to prevent external contamination and improve production yields. During the cyclotrophy process, the selected secondary microorganisms will be efficiently separated from AFA and recycled into nutrients to feed the system. That cycling avoids unnecessary waste and is a key part of the cyclotrophy.

Our production method does not require arable land, prevents the use of nitrogen fertilizers and promotes the extensive reuse of water (thanks to the water recycling circuit) and industrial by-products, as a part of a circular production philosophy.

Our recent 2M+€ equity fundraising has allowed us to create strong partnerships with key agrifood partners, and we are ramping up Smart Algae Factories using best-in-class technology to monitor and drive both industrial and environmental performance.

Thanks to our approach and technology, we are the first company in the world to produce and commercialize AFA microalgae, which we believe, is going to be one of the most promising candidates to feature in our daily meals.
