In the case of wave energy, there is a need to find new technologies to produce more energy. The existing technologies are not working well, there is not a clear technology that can be efficient in the long term.
Regarding the tidal currents technologies, they suffer to reduce the cost of generation (LCOE) and maintenance of their equipment to be competitive. 80% of the elements that cause failures in turbines are concentraturbine failures are concentrated in the generator, gearbox, pitch, yaw, and hydraulic system, which is submerged.
Arrecife is the first patente technology that can work with both waves and currents. Arrecife can increase the power by 100% (reducing the LCOE and maintenance costs by 40% using crossflow turbines being able to install all the elements on the surface and eliminate problematic systems such as pitch, yaw, brakes, and hydraulics
