AlgaeProBANOS
The four-year AlgaeProBANOS project is formed of a consortium of 26 project partners and affiliated entities, including start-ups/SMEs, industry, research institutions and innovation experts. It kicked off in April 2023 and is supported by €11M of EU funding through Horizon Europe, as well as €1M from start-ups/SMEs.
Algae are a versatile and sustainable renewable resource with a high potential to be utilised in a wide range of product applications. They can be cultivated without using freshwater, arable land, or added fertilisers and pesticides. Algae production can also have the additional benefit of improving the marine environment.
Algae utilisation has yet to be fully exploited.
The AlgaeProBANOS project has been created with a mission to accelerate the development of sustainable and innovative algae-based products in the Baltic and North Sea, to make the EU a world-leader in algae product development, and to support coastal societies and local economies.
The six pilots within AlgaeProBANOS are developing 8 innovative algae-based product pipelines across the areas of food, feed, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, textile agents and plant biostimulants, making use of both micro- and microalgae resources.
