Limenet is developing a technology to produce carbon-free lime designed for CO₂ removal. The system is based on a novel and scalable architecture that combines two core innovations: an electric calciner and a storage reactor that transforms the CO₂ coming from calcination within 50% of the lime produced in a solution of calcium bicarbonates. This solution not only enables CO2 to be stored but also helps counteract ocean acidification. To minimize emissions, Limenet’s solution relies entirely on renewable electricity. To make CDR, Limenet will use the other 50% lime as a sponge to capture CO2 from the atmosphere.

PlanBlue’s technology combines RGB and hyperspectral sensors with a machine learning pipeline to map and classify the seafloor. To illustrate, it’s akin to the concept of an augmented reality program identifying an object such as a table. With the addition of the hyperspectral camera, the technology not only recognises the object, but can also provide insights into its composition and reveal what’s contained within it, enhancing the depth of information obtained during seafloor mapping and classification.

Power Algae

We have developed microalgae photobioreactors that enable cultivation also in the Nordic climate. The designed system uses the CO2 directly from the biomass-based energy utilities flue gas and also excess heat. From the equipment engineering start-up, we now strive to grow into a company that uses this technology for cultivating microalgae and is making products thereof (based on the cascading principle). We have found confidence in the fish/animal feed sector, but now strive to launch products with higher value - targeting the market of antimicrobial compounds.

Precision Kelp Rewilding (PKR): Scaling Kelp Forest Restoration with MAD Gametophytes

We are developing and piloting Precision Kelp Rewilding along the Dutch coastline, using MAD gametophyte-based Precision Kelp Farming (PKF) to reliably produce and deploy kelp at scale for ecosystem restoration. Our goal is to expand this approach from coastal pilots to large-scale kelp forest recovery across the North Sea and beyond, supported by dedicated deployment equipment that enables others to rewild offshore environments.
