uWare Robotics - Autonomous & Accessible Underwater Data Collection and Processing

uWare Robotics is taking the aerial drone revolution underwater to protect our oceans and secure our future. uWare is a European dual-use startup that builds autonomous underwater solutions so that any blue industry can have the data necessary for sustainable operations. Port activities and offshore renewable energy are crucial to our sustainable future. They are skyrocketing and need underwater data to manage their activities and protect their assets. Yet, current solutions for underwater data are cumbersome, dangerous and expensive. uWare’s end-to-end solution of fully autonomous underwater drones and accompanying AI-based data processing makes underwater data safe, efficient and affordable. A vision that is backed by first customers such as Fraunhofer Smart Ocean technologies, the Oceanographic Institutes of Spain and Portugal, Marine Inspection companies Créocean and Seaviews as well as defence consortia in critical infrastructure inspection. uWare has also been welcomed into prestigious blue economy networks such as the Sustainable Ocean Alliance Ecopreneurs and the EU BlueInvest program.

VEGARDEN

VEGARDEN is an innovative Agritech startup, with an integrated Aquaponic ecosystem. In this model, insects are bred on organic waste from greenhouse plant cultivation to create a high-protein feed source for fish. Those fish are farmed in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), achieving a biomass yield per m3 three times higher than traditional aquaponics, and ensuring optimal health through full control of farming conditions. Water from RAS is then treated in multistage bioreactors, allowing the conversion of waste into nutrients for plants, recovering over 90% of nutrients usually lost in traditional systems. Greenhouse plants, grown via vertical farming, benefit from enriched water, yielding annually five times more than field cultivation, with over 95% savings in water and land use. Finally, plant waste is reused as feed for insect larvae, reducing insect farm operational costs by 40%.

VH QUATREVINGTREIZE

Our start-up VH Quatrevingtreize developed a smart autonomous vessel, integrating its worldwide patented hydroturbines in the device, to transform wave movements into renewable energy. The energy is stored onboard and supplied offshore to research, defense and industries. The produced energy can also be used directly onboard for production and supply of finished "goods" to the continent (fresh water through desalination, green hydrogen, CO2 captation on the sea.. )
Project TRL: TRL 4 - Component validation in laboratory environment
Main sector: Blue renewable energy

Virtualdive

OceanConnected allows any internet user to practice "virtual dive" as an alternative to scuba dive. It associates professional divers (instructors and scientists) diving in undersea sites around the world, equipped with a submersible, computerised, connected console named Dolphyn, with internet users, subscribers of the web platform OceanConnected. It further mobilises biomimetic underwater robots, connected with this console for deeper diving. It allows, by programming the robot, its use for stationary observation of, for exemple, coral reefs, without disturbing the ecosystem. Contrary to scuba diving, virtual dive allows the geo-positioning of the collected images, its identification through data basis. It further allows the discover and exploration of the undersea mobilising social networks and offering to young children in schools the access to ocean depths, in real time end interactively.

Wave Daedalus

Wave Daedalus is a blue economy project focused on the design and development of a wave energy converter with a dual role, near shore and in vessels. Wave Daedalus technology has been developed by EWD's founder, Dimitrios Lygeris, and is based on the operating principle of the free gyroscope. Using a lever, a floater is connected to the gyroscopic mechanism, which converts the free motion of the floater into rotational motion. This solution combines simple design with high energy efficiency, low manufacturing cost and easy removal. It allows for energy harvesting regradless of the direction of waves. It’s deployment can be scaled according to the energy needs of the customer and can meet power requirements from 0.5 kW to 100 kW or more (subject to conditions and deployment area). Daedalus represents a new approach to positively impacting the energy sector and contributing to sustainable shipping.
