QuantiDoc

The Missing Link to Scalable and Sustainable Fish Farming The global demand for aquatic protein is growing rapidly, yet the aquaculture industry faces a critical barrier to sustainable expansion: poor fish health and welfare, resulting in high mortality, disease outbreaks, and unstable production. Despite advances in nutrition, technology, and system design, fish farmers still lack the tools to systematically monitor and control the fish’s immune system—the very foundation of resilience and productivity. QuantiDoc’s VeriBarr™ solution fills this gap. Backed by over 12 years of scientific research and development, VeriBarr™ is the world’s first standardised technology for continuously monitoring the outer immune system in fish. The solution analyses barrier tissues—gills, skin, and gut—which act as real-time biomarkers for health status. These tissues are the first to respond to environmental stressors such as water quality, feed, handling, and disease agents. QuantiDoc’s proprietary database, developed from thousands of samples across 13 commercially important fish species, now enables farmers to benchmark fish health against scientifically validated reference intervals. VeriBarr™ transforms biopsies into actionable insights, making early intervention and production optimisation possible for the first time. In the words of a recent feature in iLaks, Norway’s leading aquaculture news outlet: "You will not succeed with industrial fish farming without monitoring the immune system." Link (in Norwegian) : https://ilaks.no/man-vil-ikke-fa-til-industriell-oppdrett-uten-a-overvake-immunforsvaret/ The Challenge: Despite billions invested in technology, the fish farming industry has lacked the ability to detect when fish are transitioning from healthy to vulnerable. This often results in late interventions, high losses, and compromised welfare. Regulators and consumers are demanding higher standards of animal health and transparency, while investors seek more predictable outcomes. The Opportunity: QuantiDoc’s technology is ready to scale. With contracts in place, and successful pilot projects showing mproved biological control, we are at a tipping point. By implementing VeriBarr™, fish farmers can: 1. Detect early signs of stress and disease weeks before clinical symptoms 2. Reduce mortality and improve growth 3. Optimise environmental conditions and operational practices 4. Certify health and welfare throughout the production cycle Deliver better economic outcomes and greater sustainability Strategic Goal: QuantiDoc aims to become the global standard for immune system surveillance in aquaculture. Our technology directly supports the EU’s Blue Economy goals by enabling resilient food systems, better resource use, improved animal welfare, and reduced environmental impact. With BlueInvest support, QuantiDoc will scale operations, accelerate digital integration, and expand into international markets where healthy fish = sustainable food. VeriBarr™ isn’t just a tool. It’s the foundation of scalable and responsible aquaculture.

R&D Innovation Services

In our innovation-driven startup, KorallionBio, microalgae take centre stage. For each sustainability question we meticulously select the ideal microalgal strains and optimise the growth, induction of biosynthesis and downstream processing methods in order to bring novel biobased products to market. The idea is simple: KorallionBio‘s cascade approach focuses on maximizing the value from a production process by using every part of the materials involved. It starts with creating an initial product, where anything not used is typically considered waste. In the next step, this leftover material is further processed to extract any remaining useful products or ingredients. At this point, KorallionBio steps in using microalgae, which convert the remaining nutrients and molecules in this waste into high-value biomolecules. This final step ensures that all possible value is extracted and nothing goes to waste.

ReefSystems

MOSES (Modular Sealife System) is a modular artificial reef technology developed by ReefSystems in the Netherlands to enhance marine biodiversity and restore degraded aquatic ecosystems. It consists of interlocking reef units that can be assembled into reef structures and placed in oceans, coastal waters, estuaries, canals, or around marine infrastructure. Once installed, the modules create complex habitats with varied surfaces, cavities and microhabitats where marine life — such as oysters, mussels, seaweeds, fish and other organisms — can find food, shelter and space to reproduce. Key features: Nature-inclusive artificial reef: Designed to mimic natural hard substrates that attract and support a wide range of aquatic species. Modular and adaptable: Units can be configured to suit different seabed conditions, project goals and scales, from small installations in urban waterways to large coastal reef projects. Functional and multifunctional: Besides ecological uplift, MOSES reefs can be integrated with coastal or offshore structures (e.g., dikes, quay walls, floating solar anchoring systems) to add habitat value while fulfilling engineering functions. Climate-aware production: Made using materials and methods aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions compared to traditional concrete, with ecological monitoring in collaboration with scientific partners. MOSES has been deployed in multiple pilot and operational projects, including large installations along the Lauwersmeerdijk in the Wadden Sea, as well as experimental reefs in places like the Noordzeekanaal and Haringvliet, demonstrating measurable increases in species richness and ecosystem complexity. In short, MOSES turns engineered marine structures into thriving underwater ecosystems, bridging ecological restoration with practical infrastructure needs.
