ARC Marine LTD
Tom Birbeck has experience in commercial diving, aquaculture, and sustainable fishing. He co-founded ARC Marine after extensive research into man-made reefs which led to the prototyping and subsequent invention of Reef Cubes technology. Tom successfully led the company through a seed round of investment and the R&D phase of Reef Cubes, while establishing ARC Marine into the Deep Tech sector in which it gains momentum. As co-founder of ARC Marine Ltd, James Doddrell has spent the last five years designing and developing suitable structures to replenish rocky reef habitats around the world. He is co-inventor/co-developer of their patented Reef Cubes product. Reef Cubes is a low carbon, a marine-friendly composite structure that caters for marine organisms of all types and stages through their life cycles. Steve Wright joined ARC Marine to follow his life-long passion of helping the oceans after a successful international career as an entrepreneur in the oil and gas industry.
Our main product is Reef Cubes - the "building blocks for the oceans" which are concrete type structures that provide hard substrate and cavities to accelerate reef creation. They are made locally at reef deployment sites using recycled materials and local labour without Portland cement and contain no plastics. They can be used for pipeline and cable protection and anti-scour protection around offshore oil and gas installations and offshore wind farms. They also have applications in coastal defence, mangrove restoration, aquaculture, reef tourism and as anti-bottom trawling deterrents within MPAs. They range in size from 150mm to over 1m in height and can weigh over 1.4 tonnes. Larger cubes are planned. They are proven spawning grounds and attract both fish and invertebrates.
Reef Cubes allow every subsea and coastal project to leave a positive marine legacy that enhances the availability of substrate and cavities to accelerate reef creation leading to an increase in biomass and C02 sequestration. They offer substantial life cycle cost savings as they will never need to be recovered from the seabed. They contain no plastics and are made from recycled materials using local labour, creating local jobs. We have two worldwide patents filed, already awarded in the UK.
