L’Océanite Tempête - in the service of surveillance

"L'Océanite Tempête" is the name of a seaplane drone project carried out by the POCHET Aerospace Company. This name was given to it in resonance with the name of the small sea bird, which lives on the cliffs and rocks of the open sea, and only very rarely comes back in contact with the land. Its flight at the level of the waves gives sometimes the impression of a race on the water. Frugal, it uses the cavities of the ground, and is sensitive to climate change because the marine microorganisms it ingests die in case of warming. The seaplane drone "Oceanite Tempête" from POCHET Aerospace is also interested in surveillance and stealthy overflight of its ecosystem... discreet, powered by alternative, hybrid energies. It explores, photographs, takes samples and reports on the health of the environment and the ecosystem in which it evolves. CALAMALO Aviation has at heart to offer, via this discreet, frugal, precise and fast aircraft, a capacity of embarkation of technologies of comprehension and analysis in real

Problem we are solving
Europe's Economic Zone added to France's Economic Zone in the APAC region is the biggest on the Planet. Implementing measurable actions for the protection of the marine environment, of sea life and of safe maritime navigation is an essential part or the EU's Maritime and Marine policies, SDG 14 and UN's ocean decade.

Pairing long range drones with artificial intelligence will provide an essential capacity to patrol vast expanses of water with only minimal human supervision. Complementary to satellite surveillance systems or maritime patrol planes, these drones will monitor marine protected areas, fishing populations and alert on illegal fishing activities. And at minimal cost.

An amphibious seaplane drone has the capacity to take off and land on water as well as on the ground or on the flight deck of a ship.

Named after the Oceanite or Storm Petrel, an endangered species of seabirds, the OCEANITE Tempest is designed to accommodate a maritime surveillance payload among which but not limited to AI, Bathymetric sensors, infrared sensors and a unique feature which no other drone can deliver: seawater sampling thanks to its landing capacity on water.

Furthermore, according to the United Nations, 70% of world populations lives at 100 km of a coastline. The need to decongest and reduce air traffic pollution requires to think out of the box.

In this perspective, the OCEANITE TEMPEST will also be a small-scale demonstrator for the MORGANN, a new generation seaplane powered by Hydrogen.
As the OCEANITE, the MORGANN will include hydrofoils for short take off, hydrogen propulsion, foldable wings, amphibious gear for landing on seawater, ground or flight deck.

The MORGANN will have 4 seats as well the capacity to load a stretcher for medical support to island populations. Its flying range will be of 1000 km. The MORGANN will be launched in a next stage of the project.

Sustainable Impact on Blue Ecconomy
OCEANITE Tempest is an amphibious seaplane drone. It can land and take off from water or from the ground or from the deck of a ship. It has foldable wings for convenient storage, hydrofoils for short take off capacities and will operate on a hydrogen battery.

The value proposition is unique as the OCEANITE is the only drone totally adapted to Marine environment whilst offering a capacity to host a tailored marine surveillance capacity.

The value proposition is sustainable as the payload can be modified rapidly to provide a specific range of data as demand for specific marine surveillance evolves.

TRL
  • TRL 3 - Analytical and experimental critical function and/or characteristic proof-of-concept

Financial NeedsConstruction and operation of the OCEANITE of Drone N°1 : 1.5 Meuros

Total OCEANITE and MORGANN : 30 Meuros

The MORGANN project is very similar to the US Seaplane project Regent. The Regent seaplane project raised 28 MUSD with key investors such as Peter Thiel, founder of PayPal.
